Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers on pathways, requirements and getting started.
Do I need a degree to teach English in Cambodia?
Unlike many other countries in Asia, Cambodia does not legally require foreign English teachers to hold a university or college degree to obtain a teaching-related work permit and visa.
Which pathway is best if I’m not yet qualified?
If you don’t yet hold valid TESOL, TEFL or CELTA certification, you can choose between AVSE’s government-regulated In-Class and Hybrid TESOL programs.
What if I already have TESOL, TEFL, or CELTA?
If you already hold valid TESOL, TEFL or CELTA certification, AVSE’s Teaching Jobs Abroad Program may be the ideal next step. The program focuses on gaining real classroom experience, building confidence and settling into your new environment.
How long does it take to become classroom-ready?
Timelines vary depending on your chosen pathway and availability. Some training options are intensive, while others offer greater flexibility. For more information, visit the Cambodian Destination page on the AVSE website.
Can people from any country apply to join a program at AVSE?
Yes. AVSE welcomes applications from people of all nationalities and backgrounds. Native and non-native English speakers are encouraged to apply, provided they meet the published entry requirements for their chosen program.
Please note that entry visas, work permits and other immigration decisions are made solely by the Cambodian Government. While AVSE provides guidance throughout the process, we cannot influence or guarantee the outcome of government decisions.
What support does AVSE provide before, during and after training?
AVSE provides structured guidance before, during, and after your program — including pathway advice, preparation support, and clear next steps aligned with your chosen destination.
What happens after I decide that Cambodia is the right teaching destination for me?
Once you’ve decided that Cambodia is the right teaching destination for you, the next step is to choose the pathway that best matches your qualifications, experience and goals.
If you don’t yet hold recognised TESOL, TEFL or CELTA certification, you can choose between AVSE’s government-regulated In-Class and Hybrid TESOL programs. If you already hold recognised TESOL, TEFL or CELTA certification, AVSE’s Teaching Jobs Abroad Program may be the right option.
The Cambodian Destination page on the AVSE website explains each pathway, outlines the entry requirements and provides practical guidance to help you move forward with clarity and confidence.
