Cheap Hotels in Phnom Penh, Cambodia
The In-Class TESOL program at AVSE-TESOL in Phnom Penh requires your full attention for around 23 days, so nailing down the right place to stay is important. Ideally, your accommodation should 1. not break the bank, 2. meet your personal needs, and 3. be within walking distance of the training site. Finding somewhere that ticks all the boxes that matter to you will surely add value to your overall TESOL experience.
The AVSE-TESOL training venue in Phnom Penh is located at:

Westline School
22 Street 51, Daun Penh
Corner of Streets 51 & 154
Phnom Penh, Cambodia
Here’s some good news. There are plenty of cheap hotels in Phnom Penh. You’ll be spoilt for choice.
Accommodation, temporary or permanent, is one of those areas in life where one size doesn’t fit all. Some people start their teaching English abroad journey on a tight budget, others have cash to splash on accommodation — and there’s a sizable cohort who are slap bang in the middle of the ‘tight budget’ and ‘cash to splash’ groups.
For many folks, basic and cheap will do the job nicely, even if it means seeing the occasional gecko strutting his (or her) stuff across the ceiling above the bed. Others want a decent number of creature comforts — rather than actual creatures like the occasional gecko!

TESOL Accommodation in Phnom Penh
When should I arrive?
When booking your TESOL accommodation in Phnom Penh, keep in mind that your first night should be no later than day one of your program — the designated start date, which will be a Sunday.
This is important because AVSE-TESOL hosts a Welcome Dinner and drinks, free of charge, on the first evening of each new program. It’s a terrific opportunity to meet AVSE staff and your classmates in an informal setting. Having already met everyone tends to make day two — the first day in class — less stressful than it might otherwise be.
Including day one — the first Sunday — you should book accommodation for 23 nights. All being well, this will give you enough time to complete the In-Class TESOL program in Phnom Penh.
Where should I stay?
AVSE-TESOL co-locates with the Westline Education Group, one of the largest educational entities in Cambodia. When choosing somewhere to stay, we recommend finding a place within walking distance of our training venue at Westline School — or at least within a radius of two kilometres.
Why is this important? Among other things, staying nearby means you’ll 1. be more self-sufficient, 2. have an additional 30 to 60 minutes each day to focus on your coursework, and 3. save money on transport — tuk-tuks, buses, taxis and the like — even though getting around Phnom Penh is pretty cheap.
Staying in Daun Penh
Daun Penh is a central district of Phnom Penh that encompasses much of the city’s downtown area. It’s a hive of activity — if not 24/7, pretty close to it. You’ll find history, culture, the arts, local food choices (including cockroaches and spiders), markets, nightlife in abundance and a terrific ‘boardwalk’ along the banks of the Tonle Sap River — all within easy walking distance.
Most importantly, as elsewhere in Cambodia, you’ll find some of the nicest people on planet Earth — people who would quite literally, as the old saying goes, ‘give you the shirt off their back’.

Just a quick word on personal safety…
Phnom Penh is a brilliant place to live, work and visit. In the main, it’s also safe and well-lit. As in other major cities around the world, however, it’s wise to be vigilant and mindful of your personal safety when you’re out and about.
Basic safety measures while you’re completing a training program at AVSE-TESOL include: 1. going out with a classmate at night rather than alone; 2. avoiding the use of your mobile phone while walking or standing in the street; 3. if you carry a bag, choosing one with a long strap that can be worn across your body rather than over one shoulder; and 4. keeping your valuables securely stored.
