Eligibility

Eligibility to enrol in the Hybrid TESOL Program

Hybrid TESOL is suitable for people aged 18+ who can study independently online and travel to Phnom Penh for the nine-day practicum block. To be considered for enrolment, applicants must generally be able to:

  • Communicate effectively in English, with skills at upper-intermediate to advanced levels
  • Commit to completing the online theory components of the TESOL course before travelling to Cambodia for the practicum
  • Meet international travel entry requirements for Cambodia

AVSE reviews every application and emails eligible applicants with guidance on the next steps.

Thinking about teaching English in Cambodia?

Completing the Hybrid TESOL program prepares you to teach English, but it does not by itself determine your eligibility to work legally in Cambodia. The Cambodian Government sets the requirements for teaching-related work permits and visas.

General requirements include:

  • A Government-regulated TESOL, TEFL or CELTA qualification (original certificate).
  • A criminal background check from your home country, issued within the previous six months (original document).

Good to know

Unlike many other countries, Cambodia does not require a university or college degree to obtain a teaching-related work permit and visa. In most cases, key documents also do not need to be notarised or legalised.
