Overview
The Hybrid TESOL program at AVSE delivers the same comprehensive course content as the In-Class TESOL option, but in a more flexible format. You complete Modules 1 to 11 online, then travel to Phnom Penh or Ho Chi Minh City for Modules 12 to 17 — a nine-day, supported in-class block that includes a 12-hour supervised practicum and nine nights’ accommodation.
Hybrid TESOL suits people who want to start training remotely and keep work or personal commitments on track, while still completing meaningful classroom practice before pursuing ESL teaching roles. The program includes a Government–regulated TESOL certification, one-on-one trainer guidance throughout, and hands-on job support after graduation.

Eligibility
Eligibility to enrol in Hybrid TESOL
Hybrid TESOL is suitable for people aged 18+ who can study independently online and travel to Phnom Penh or Ho Chi Minh City for the nine-day practicum block. To be considered for enrolment, applicants must generally be able to:
- Communicate effectively in English, with skills at upper-intermediate to advanced levels
- Commit to completing the online theory components of the TESOL course before travelling to Cambodia or Vietnam for the practicum
- Meet international travel entry requirements for Cambodia or Vietnam
AVSE reviews applications to confirm eligibility and provide written guidance before a place is confirmed.
Eligibility to complete the Hybrid TESOL course is not the same as eligibility to work legally as an ESL teacher in Cambodia or Vietnam. Requirements differ between the two countries.
Cambodia (general requirements)
- Government-regulated TESOL/TEFL/CELTA qualification — original document
- Provide a criminal background check from their home country, issued within the past six months — original document
A university or college degree is not a legal requirement in Cambodia for a teaching-related work permit and visa. Key documents are not legally required to be notarised and legalised in Cambodia.
Vietnam (general requirements)
- Government-regulated TESOL/TEFL/CELTA qualification — original document
- Recognised university degree — original document
- Provide a criminal background check from their home country, issued within the past six months — original document
- Non-native English speakers must provide evidence of English proficiency, typically with a minimum IELTS score of 7.0 (or equivalent)
- Key documents must be notarised and legalised in the country of issue (degree, TESOL certificate, police check, and English proficiency test result where applicable)
