Vietnam TEFL Internships (51 Days)

The Vietnam TEFL Internships Program at AVSE-TESOL (AVSE) is a fully supported 51-day ESL teaching experience, that builds real classroom confidence through an immersive placement in a rural school community in the Mekong Delta.

Overview

AVSE’s Vietnam TEFL Internships Program is a structured pathway for people who want to experience ESL teaching in Vietnam over a short period — 51 days in total — while living like a local in a rural school community.

Participants begin a Government-regulated TESOL qualification through self-paced online study from their home country, then complete their training with an intensive teaching practicum in Ho Chi Minh City. From there, they transition to a six-week internship placement in the Mekong Delta. Accommodation is included throughout the program: 51 nights in total (9 nights in Ho Chi Minh City + 42 nights in the Mekong Delta).

This program suits people with around two months to spare — for example during a summer break, between jobs, or while on extended leave — who are adaptable and motivated by practical skills development and cultural immersion in Southeast Asia.

What’s Included

Your US $1,150 program fee includes:

1) Before you arrive in Vietnam

• Government-regulated TESOL qualification — begin via self-paced online study from your home country
• Visa, insurance and documentation advice

2) Ho Chi Minh City: 9 nights (Days 1–9)

• Single room with private bathroom, within easy walking distance of the AVSE training centre (9 nights)
• Welcome dinner & drinks (Day 1)
• Interactive cultural immersion workshop conducted by local staff
• Half-day Ho Chi Minh City tour, led and accompanied by AVSE staff
• Intensive, classroom-focused practicum, including:
  • Lesson-planning workshops with experienced tutors
  • 6 hours observation (real students, real classes)
  • 6 hours teaching practice (real students, real classes) — first 4 hours observed

3) Mekong Delta: 42 nights (6 weeks)

• Six-week internship placement in a rural school community in the Mekong Delta
• Single room with private bathroom, within easy reach of your internship school (42 nights)
• Teaching load: 25 hours +/- per week (in-class) during the placement
• Pocket money: US$300 total, paid in Vietnamese dong (VND) in weekly instalments during the placement

4) Post-program support

• Employment-related references (where appropriate); guidance on career pathways and Vietnam visa coverage; and a point of contact for ESL teaching and learning questions.

Eligibility

AVSE’s Vietnam TEFL Internships Program is designed for motivated, professionally minded people who want a short, structured teaching experience in Vietnam — and who are excited by skills development and cultural immersion in Southeast Asia.

A university degree is not a core requirement to enrol in the Vietnam TEFL Internships Program.

You’ll be a great fit if you:

• Communicate confidently in English (spoken and written)
• Feel comfortable living in a rural setting and engaging with a local community
• Are motivated to complete the self-paced online theory component of the TESOL qualification before arriving in Vietnam
• Have a proven history of working professionally and respectfully with people from different backgrounds and cultures

You’ll also need:

• To be at least 18 years of age on the start date of the internship
• A laptop or desktop computer
• Access to reliable internet
• The ability to complete and submit assessment tasks via a Student Learning Portal

How the Vietnam TEFL Internships Program Works
