Overview

AVSE’s Vietnam TEFL Internship Program is a short-term, immersive program for people who want to gain real ESL teaching experience in Vietnam over 51 days, including 42 days living like a local in a rural school community.

The program is built around AVSE’s Australian Government-regulated TESOL qualification (RTO: 45373, Course: 11245NAT). Participants begin with self-paced online study from their home country, then complete an intensive in-country teaching practicum in Ho Chi Minh City. From there, they transition into a six-week internship placement in the Mekong Delta.

Basic accommodation, consistent with budget-style living in Vietnam, is included throughout the program (51 nights in total: 9 nights in Ho Chi Minh City and 42 nights in the Mekong Delta), along with support across training, placement, and local orientation.

This program suits people with around two months available — for example, during a summer break, between roles, or on extended leave — who are adaptable and motivated by practical skills development and cultural immersion in Southeast Asia.

In some cases, applicants may already hold a recognised TESOL qualification or be referred through a partner organisation. In these instances, a modified program pathway may apply.

Eligibility

AVSE’s Vietnam TEFL Internships Program is designed for motivated, professionally minded people who want a short, structured teaching experience in Vietnam — and who are excited by skills development and cultural immersion in Southeast Asia.

A university degree is not a core requirement to enrol in the Vietnam TEFL Internships Program.

You’ll be a great fit if you:

  • Communicate confidently in English (spoken and written)
  • Feel comfortable living in a rural setting and engaging with a local community
  • Are motivated to complete the self-paced online theory component of the TESOL qualification before arriving in Vietnam
  • Have a proven history of working professionally and respectfully with people from different backgrounds and cultures

You’ll also need:

  • To be at least 18 years of age on the start date of the internship
  • A laptop or desktop computer
  • Access to reliable internet
  • The ability to complete and submit assessment tasks via a Student Learning Portal

Time commitment

This program suits people with around two months to spare. You’ll start the TESOL qualification via self-paced online study from your home country, then complete the in-country component over 51 days in Vietnam.

How the Vietnam TEFL Internships Program Works
